LSIS STAR Awards

STARlight fund applications

Each year STAR Award winners and highly commended nominees receive up to £1,500 from the STARlight fund which can be used for personal and/or professional development. This year we have already received some great applications for some exciting activities and development opportunities.

Funding applications that have been approved include;

  • a study trip to India and Texas to work with local radio stations aimed at the Asian community and deliver a live broadcast back to the UK;
  • a class outing for deaf students to the headquarters of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People;
  • the purchase of a laptop and screen recording software to develop a nominee’s resource website www.subjectfinder.com;
  • resources to create a Skills for Life social area to launch a book and film club;
  • a Royal Horticultural Society course for a nominee who is due to retire;
  • a contribution towards an undergraduate degree in facilities management, and;
  • the purchase of a digital camera and photography training to develop teaching resources for spectator safety.

Further information about the 2009 STAR Awards winners’ and highly commended nominees’ STARlight fund activity will be available on the STAR Awards website in the new year.

Thank you to all the STAR Awards sponsors who supported the 2009 awards and whose sponsorship contribution will go back into the sector through the LSIS STARlight fund.
